Sheffield Steeldogs have confirmed the signing of Czech forward Pavel Mrna.

The 27-year-old, a product of the Sparta Prague junior system, has spent the majority of his career in the Czech Republic, but has also played in France and Germany.

Steeldogs’ Player/Coach Greg Wood said: “I’ve been looking at Pavel since early in the summer, but with the level of experience he’s got I imagine he’s had a few offers on the table.

“His points production in the leagues he’s played in is there or thereabouts with Lubo (Korhon), but Pavel is 10 years younger.

“With his size and skill level he will be able to do a really good job for us. I’m looking for him to be putting points on the board for us but also for an all-round game from him.

“I’ve been aware that size has been a bit lacking in our team for a few years and I think this year we will have the biggest team we ever had.

“Pavel is 6’2” – he’s a big unit. A guy of his size, skill level and points production should translate well into our league.

“On paper this is the most talented team we’ve had for a long, long time. We just have to get to work and get the boys playing as a team ready for the start of the season.

“All the EPL teams have strengthened this summer, but I know with the team we’ve signed we can compete in every game and surprise a few teams this year.

“We’ve retained the core guys from last season and added to the mix with the new signings.”
