Devils dominate at home over Edinburgh

The Devils dominated from start to finish on Sunday evening, eventually skating to a 7-2 victory over the Edinburgh Capitals for their second win in as many nights.

Layne Ulmer opened the scoring on the powerplay at 8:57 with Paul Crowder and Joey Martin collecting assists on the play.  Just over 3 minutes later, Justin Faryna scored his first of the game to double the Devils lead at 12:02, which is how the scoreline stayed after the opening 20 minutes of play.

The Capitals pulled a goal back in the opening minute of the middle period when Mike Cazzola send Marek Tvrdon in on a breakaway and he snuck the puck through the legs of Thomas Murdy to make it 2-1.  Faryna scored again at 22:27 to restore the Devils two goal cushion, then Patrick Asselin make it 4-1 at 30:42 followed by a Jake Morissette goal at 35:03 to give the Devils a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

The Devils continues to control the majority of the play in the final period, but didn’t add another goal until 48:51 when Joey Martin scored to make it 6-1.  Josh Batch wired a wrist shot past the Capitals netminder for the final goal for the Devils at 54:39 to make it 7-1.  Capitals forward Marek Tvrdon scored his second goal of the game in the dying minutes, making it 7-2 at 57:57.

Thomas Murdy stopped 10 of the 12 shots he faced for the win and Justin Faryna picked up the Man of the Match for the Devils with his two goals.
