Devils shut out Dundee Stars on Wednesday night

Stars V Devils 27 09 17 11, British Ice Hockey

Three first period goals were enough to lead the Devils to a 4-0 win in Dundee on Wednesday Night.

Former Dundee Star Justin Faryna scored first against his old team with a rebound goal past Travis Fullerton just 3:05 into the first period with Layne Ulmer and Mark Richardson picking up assists on the goal.

Matthew Myers got the final touch on the powerplay at 11:50 to put the Devils up 2-0 with Sean Bentivoglio and Jake Morissette assisting on the goal.  The Devils scored again at 17:10 when Patrick Asselin finished off a passing play between Joey Martin and Andrew Hotham to complete the first period scoring and give the visiting Devils a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The middle period saw plenty of opportunities for the Stars to get back into the game with 3 consecutive powerplays, but the Devils were up to task on the penalty kill keeping the Stars at bay.  When the Stars got through the Devils defence, Ben Bowns was there to make the big saves.

The final period saw the Devils get their 4th and final goal of the game when Layne Ulmer tipped in a Drew Paris slapshot at 52:09 with Gleason Fournier getting the second assist on the play.  The dying minutes saw Josh Batch and the Stars’ Emerson Hrynyk drop the gloves with Batch coming out on top and Bowns getting his first shutout of the season, stopping all 23 shots he faced.
