Cardiff Devils have confirmed the signing of Canadian forward Patrick Asselin.

The 28-year-old Canadian won three straight Danish Championships in 2013, 2014 and 2015 with SonderjyskE.

Asselin did not play last season, spending time in Switzerland with his wife and child. He has been training all year with the aim of returning to the ice for the new season.

He is an Irish passport holder giving the Devils another EU player along with Zach Hervato.

Asselin’s final season with SonderjyskE saw him score 19 goals with 40 assists in 47 games. He also scored an impressive seven goals in six games in the Champions Hockey League that year.

Player/Coach Andrew Lord said: “Asselin is a very skilled forward and is one of those guys that keeps himself in great shape so we aren’t too concerned that he took a year off from playing last season.

“He is a guy that plays well at both ends of the ice and puts up great numbers offensively. He is a proven winner and is hungry to win when he gets to Cardiff.”
