Devils win in Guildford, 2 goals from Haddad

Joey Haddad scored twice to lead the charge for the Devils as they skated to a 5-2 win over the Guildford Flames on Wednesday.

The opening goal came on a penalty shot after Joey Haddad was tripped while he was in all alone on Flames netminder Chris Carrozzi. Haddad was tripped on the play but managed to score on the ensuing penalty shot to make it 1-0 at 9:10.

The Flames quickly equalised through Kevin Phillips who scored to tie the game at 1-1 with the goal coming at 10:38. A second goal from Haddad timed at 12:13 gave the Devils a 2-1 lead, which is how the opening period finished.

Rhett Rachinski tied the game for the Flames on the powerplay at 23:20 with Andrew Hotham sitting in the penalty box for tripping. At 34:05, the Devils took the lead when Justin Faryna scored to make it 3-2, which is how it stood after 40 minutes of action.

The third period saw both sides fire 14 shots at each other’s net, but only the Devils managed any goals out of it. At 48:13 Layne Ulmer hade it 4-2 for the Devils and then Joey Martin scored to make it 5-2 at 49:51, which was how this game ended.

Ben Bowns made 23 saves and Joey Haddad was the pick for Man of the Match after scoring twice in the first period.
