Guildford boss Paul Dixon is aiming to put a mixed weekend for the Flames behind him as he prepares to face Telford Tigers in the EPL play-offs.

The Flames defeated Sheffield Steeldogs 5-2 on Saturday before falling 7-6 at Peterborough Phantoms the following day, but Dixon has quickly switched his attention to the defence of their play-off title.

“Sheffield have given us some really good games this season, but we controlled the game very well and in the end got the right result,” said Dixon.

“Sunday was very disappointing to say the least. We had enough opportunities and enough of the play to win the hockey game under any circumstances, but when you get back into it, and even take a lead after being so far out of it, losing has a bit of extra sting.

“We are going to have to put it behind us and look ahead now to opening the play-offs on Wednesday with the challenge of the season when we visit the league champions Telford Tigers and try to get onto the play-off table quickly to get us started in the six game group round.”
