Guildford Flames’ boss Paul Dixon was satisfied with his team’s efforts in the EPL over the weekend, despite seeing them collect just two points.

The Flames won 4-2 at home to Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday, but followed up with a defeat by the same scoreline at Telford Tigers the following day.

“I thought we played a very strong game on Saturday, especially in the first period where Peterborough could barely get it out of their own end.

“We advanced on them in the second period as well and maybe relented a bit in the third, especially when they scored a couple of late ones to make the score look closer.

“Despite that, it was a very strong outing that we can be really pleased with.

“At Telford it is a shame we did fall behind, because we had a good effort in the final couple of periods and we could have won the hockey game.

“We might see them in the play-offs, and if we do we need to believe we can beat them, but we also need to be prepared to play them very tight from the off to ensure we are not trying to recover a deficit for most of the evening.

“Overall it was a good weekend of play, and we look forward to a productive week of training as we continue to ramp it up for the play-offs.”
