Paul Dixon criticised his Guildford Flames team for being “too loose” defensively after they crashed 4-1 at home to MK Lightning on Sunday.

The result left the Flames fifth in the EPL, just two points ahead of Swindon Wildcats and Hull Pirates as the regular season enters its final few weeks.

“Despite a lot of shots, more than Milton Keynes in fact, we didn’t get enough bodies to the net,” said Dixon.

“We have to get more traffic and try to squeeze some goals in that are hard to see or are re-directed or are coming off rebounds.

“Shooting through clear lanes is easy for goaltenders to stop, and you are not going to get enough of those to have success.

“We actually did some good things and were competitive, but defensively we were far too loose.

“We have to be better back there, and hopefully we can demonstrate improvement the next time out.”
