Sheffield Steelers closed the gap on Manchester Storm to two points after a convincing 5-1 victory over Edinburgh Capitals.

The Steelers opened the scoring after only three minutes when John Armstrong rifled one in to get them on their way.

Matt Marquardt doubled the lead minutes later when Caps goalie Pavel Shegalo couldn’t hold a shot from Robert Dowd, with the forward applying the finish.

Dowd got his marker as a flurry of goals broke out in the back end of the second period, after he was set up by Andreas Valdix.

Mark Matheson made the night slightly better for the away team when he made it 4-0 with a shot into the top corner.

This was followed by Ben O’Connor finishing a rebound after Colton Fretter’s powerful shot came off the boards for the GB international.

Caps pulled one back before the second break as Duncan Spiers got his first goal for the Caps after the home side broke forward, which proved to be a mere consolation in the end.
