Cardiff Devils moved level on points with Nottingham Panthers at the top of the Elite League after an impressive 6-2 win at Braehead Clan on Wednesday.

Devils’ netminder Thomas Murdy kept Clan at bay during the early stages, with a phenomenal double save to deny Alex Leavitt and Matt Keith a particularly standout moment.

Andrew Lord put the visitors ahead late in the first period, before the Devils ran riot in the middle session to put the game beyond Clan’s reach.

Guillaume Doucet, Matthew Myers and Lord again made it 4-0 as the hosts struggled to cope with the Devils’ speed.

Luke Piggott added another, before Matt Beca finally got Clan on the board just ahead of the second break.

Doucet restored the five goal advantage six minutes into the final period and although Corey Cowick reduced the deficit with five minutes to go, the Devils comfortably held on to secure the points.

Edinburgh Capitals followed up Sunday’s win over Coventry Blaze with a comfortable 5-1 home victory against Dundee Stars.

Taylor MacDougall (2), Matt Tipoff, Pavel Vorobyev and Jacob Johnston got the Capitals’ goals, with Kevin Hart grabbing a consolation for the Stars.
