Fife Flyers have denied claims made by former player Aiden Wilson that the club failed to fulfil contractual obligations.

Wilson, who made 18 appearances for the club following a move from Planet Ice NIHL National League side Romford Raiders last season, took to social media saying the club had failed to fulfil their duties relating to player accommodation and travel costs.

In a Facebook post, Wilson said: “I was promised a room in one of the imports’ houses and a fuel card during summer negotiations.

“I never got either, so I was doing a night shift, then driving to the rink and sleeping in my car until practice.

“They let this happen for a month until early last week, I refused to do it anymore and asked for the room I was promised.”

Fife released Wilson with immediate effect over the weekend.

Fife hit back at claims

Confirming his departure, the Flyers said that the decision was made after it became ” increasingly apparent that it was going to be too challenging for the club and the player to accommodate his travel and work commitments”.

However, Elite League side Fife have refuted the claims made by their former player.

A statement, released by the club on Monday evening, said: “The Fife Flyers are aware of recent social media comments from former player Aiden Wilson.

“We’re disappointed that these concerns were shared publicly rather than discussed directly with the club.

“The Flyers fully met all contractual commitments made to Aiden during his time with the team, including fuel reimbursements.

“Out of respect for everyone involved, we won’t engage further on private matters, but we stand by the professionalism and integrity with which this situation was handled.

“We wish Aiden the best moving forward and remain focused on our players, our supporters who have given us tremendous backing so far, and the season ahead.”

The Flyers have endured a mixed start to the campaign, winning three of their eight Challenge Cup games. They were also heavily beaten by Manchester Storm in their opening league fixture last Sunday.

They return to the ice on Saturday night, welcoming Guildford Flames to the Fife Ice Arena.
