Guildford Flames’ boss Paul Dixon admitted it was a big relief to see his team pick up successive victories in the EPL last weekend.

Flames won 5-3 at home to Peterborough Phantoms and followed up with a 4-3 shoot-out success at Bracknell Bees to record their first four-point weekend since the beginning of October.

Dixon said: “We’ve been under a lot of pressure lately to get some results, so it’s a good feeling to begin a week of training with back-to-back wins.

“Stretches like this can weigh heavily on our guys so even though in the grand scheme it’s only a couple of wins, it was key to opening a valve and letting some of that pressure off.

“Perhaps just as notable was feeling like maybe we finally caught a break by winning an extra time game.

“Up to this point we’d fallen on the wrong side of all of our overtime and penalty games, so it was finally our time to brush that trend aside.

“We only have one game this weekend with a visit by Bracknell on Sunday, but hopefully we can really use this to push us forward now to a better run of it in the coming weeks.”
