Great Britain Under-20s warmed-up for the U20 World Championship Division II Group A with a 5-2 victory over Korea U20s in an international challenge game at Dumfries Ice Bowl.

GB went ahead 16 seconds before the first intermission when Sam Duggan got the decisive touch at the side of the net after good work down low from Liam Kirk (19:44).

Ten seconds into the second period, Duggan set-up Cole Shudra to make it 2-0 as he finished from the top of the crease (20:10).

Bradley Jenion created the chance of Jordan Buesa in the slot for GB’s third at 23:27, before Korea pulled one back short-handed as Juhyung Lee broke up play in neutral zone and skated in on Jordan Lawday to fire high blocker (27:49).

Britain restored their three-goal cushion with a well-worked fourth as Oliver Stone and Josh Waller combined to set-up Jordan Kelsall on the doorstep (30:32).

The midway point of the game saw both sides make a change in goal as Ethan James replaced Lawday for GB.

Great Britain netted their fifth at 38:50 when Mac Howlett took advantage of Korea netminder Tae Kyung Kim being out of position to score from the half-boards.

TK Lee scored for Korea on the powerplay (55:18) to reduce the arrears but it was merely a consolation goal.

Head coach, Slava Koulikov, said: “I think we did alright. There were some good points and some points we can correct.

“Overall, it has been good. It is only one game but it was a game against a good opponent.

“It is certainly something we can review and we can add to it.

“It has been an interesting few days and a lot of work has taken place on and off the ice.”

The World Championship gets under way on Sunday, starting with Japan against Netherlands (1pm), followed Korea versus Estonia (4:30pm) and GB take on Romania at 8pm.
