Belfast Giants forward Steve Saviano has been named the Elite League Player of the Week for the period ending 19th November 2017.

The 36-year-old picked up six points, including four goals, in their impressive 9-3 home win over Manchester Storm.

It was his first points in five games as Giants ended a three-game losing streak as they currently sit in third place in the Elite League table.

And Saviano says it was a ‘fortunate’ night for him as he picked up the first ever six-point night in his career.

“I’ve never had a six-point night in my career.  I’ve had a couple of lucky nights here and there, but that’s never happened to me before,” he said.

“That was one of those things where I got lucky and I got a lot of bounces and my team-mates were there for me.  It was a fortunate night for me personally.

“But getting that win against the first-place team going into the weekend was the most important that and we managed to do that.

“We had a real determination to end that run of three losses and that’s why you saw we never really let up, as we put in a solid 60-minute game.

“Sunday was our last home game for a while and we wanted to come out strong, which we did and the two points for us were huge.”

Saviano has 24 points from 25 games in all competitions so far, scoring nine and assisting in 13 goals this season.
