Clan, British Ice Hockey
Glasgow’s Braehead Clan picked up a point on a night of another near-miss as they lost on overtime for a second straight night to Belfast Giants.
It was the second game of a three-game weekend following on from Clan’s heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Sheffield Steelers on Friday.
The home side took the lead when Brendan Brooks squared the puck for captain Ville Hämäläinen and he despatched into the Belfast net.
They added a second not long after as Ryan Potulny released from the left corner, finding Brooks who sent his shot over Jackson Whistle’s shoulder for the second.
A minute and a half later, it was 3-0 as Mike Embach’s shot took a deflection from Matt Haywood.  The puck bounced agonisingly away from Whistle and over the line.
Giants got one back when Mark Garside’s shot from the blue line flashed past Ryan Nie in Braehead’s goal.
They got to within one during the second period as Colin Shields fired in a shot from the centre of the Clan defensive zone that hit the post before dropping into the net.
However the Giants had to make do without Sebastien Sylvestre for the third period when he was given a match penalty for headbutting.
Giants took advantage of a turnover by Brendan Brooks, with John Kurtz pouncing to bring the visitors level with a shorthanded finish.
Once more the extra period was needed, with Jonathan Ferland applying the finish to secure two points on the road for Adam Keefe’s men.
Clan now make the trip to take on Sheffield Steelers on Sunday at Ice Sheffield in the final game of the three-game weekend.
