Glasgow’s Braehead Clan 3 Fife Flyers 2

Clan, British Ice Hockey

Glasgow’s Braehead Clan ended a six-game losing run over Fife Flyers to take a 3-2 victory over their Gardiner Conference rivals.

While there were chances at both ends, goaltenders Andy Iles and Ryan Nie saw their goals unblemished.

Evan Bloodoff and Chase Schaber were involved in a scramble in front of Nie’s crease, with the final chance forcing Clan’s goalie to plunge low to divert it wide.

The home side went close themselves as Matt Haywood found himself though on Iles, but Fife’s custodian made a terrific save.

Clan took the lead midway through the second when Adam Brace fed Christoffer Bjorklund and the Swede sent his powerful shot into the net from the blue line.

Fife got themselves level with a powerplay goal as Peter LeBlanc nudged the puck on for Carlo Finucci to finish from close range.

Danick Gauthier had them in front early in the second when his chance squirmed through Nie to give the visitors the edge.

But Clan replied in the best possible way as Felix Poulin helped the puck on to Adam Brace, who swept in from close range.

Poulin was the executioner for what proved to be the winner when his backhanded shot found its way into the net to send the Purple Army home in celebration.
