How to relax in the offseason

Playing hockey will take a lot out of you and is a challenging sport to play. Your coach expects you to perform well on and off the ice and to win games.

While it’s important to work hard during the season, it’s also in your best interest to take good care of yourself when you’re not playing the sport. Use the offseason to your advantage and as a way to relax and remove yourself from all the intensity that goes on during the season. This way, when training begins again for the following year, you’ll feel prepared and ready to go instead of drained and worn down.

You’re so busy with your physical fitness during the season that it’s also important to work on your mental health and learning when you’re not on the ice. Relax in the offseason by taking the time to read books and soak up new information. Also, consider writing or keeping a journal and recording down your feelings and emotions and what you want to work on improving when it’s time to get back to playing hockey.


No longer do you have to worry about how you’re going to fill your time in your offseason. Apply these ideas, and you’ll be on your way to having more fulfilling days ahead. When you’re not relaxing, you can also commit to staying in shape and training your body and mind to be even stronger when you return to the ice.
