Kevin Gibson to leave Lightning

Gibson Kevin 201718, British Ice Hockey

Sunday’s home fixture against the Manchester Storm will be the last in MK colours for defenceman Kevin Gibson, the club announces today.

Kevin, 27, has asked to return home permanently to the United States due to an illness in his family.  His final appearance in Lightning colours will be this Sunday’s home fixture against the Manchester Storm (face off 5.45pm Planet Ice MK Arena).

He joined the Smith Recycling MK Lightning in the summer after two seasons in the ECHL with Quad City Mallards and having impressed in the US collegiate system whilst at university.

Head Coach Pete Russell commented, “He will be a huge loss for us, both on and off the ice and we want to thank Kevin for everything he’s done for us since arriving.

“We fully respect and support his decision and we wish him and his family nothing but the best for the future.”

The charity auction for Kevin’s game-worn Challenge Cup jersey will close at Sunday’s home game against the Manchester Storm and Kevin will present the jersey to its new owner on the ice at the end of the match. Bids can be placed on the day at the merchandise stand beside block 14, until five minutes before the end of the second period break.
