Alex Leavitt has agreed a second season with Braehead Clan

The Canadian enjoyed a productive debut year in the Elite League, scoring 24 goals with 58 assists in 64 games.

Head Coach Ryan Finnerty admits the 32-year-old was a player he didn’t fully appreciate until later on, but is pleased to have him back for a second campaign.

“Levy’s a guy that grew on me last year,” Finnerty said. “When we broke down some analytical video over the summer, we quickly realised whatever line he was on was the one producing.

“He’s one of those guys you have to see to appreciate and a player everyone wants to play with. In the exit meetings, the other guys spoke of how much they wanted to play with him.

“Alex has great vision and his hockey IQ is high and has produced in every year he’s ever played and is a guy we value.

“I like him not only as a player, but as a person. I enjoy coaching him and I like what he brings to the dressing room. With that in mind I’m glad we’ve brought him back.

“Alex is going to be a big player for us so we’re going to expect more from him. He’ll be an offensive guy and will create opportunities for others.

“We also want to put guys around him that compliment him. He’s the kind of winger that can give guys some career years. With a good centreman, he can be dangerous.”
