The Smith Recycling MK Lightning can confirm they have signed Czech netminder Jindrich Pacl on a short term basis as cover for Miika Wiikman. Subject to international clearance it is hoped that Pacl will Ice in this Saturday’s home fixture against the Sheffield Steelers (Planet Ice, 7pm Saturday 27 January).
Wiikman sustained a mild concussion during last Sunday’s Home clash with his former team the Nottingham Panthers.
Known as ‘Henry’, Pacl played alongside Miika at the Panthers last season. The 22 year old from Plzen backstopped the team in 26 fixtures.
Head Coach Pete Russell said, “It’s a tough situation with Miika’s injury and one thing is definite, we cannot rush him back.
“Due to this we need to add some extra depth to support us through this period. Miika’s injury has left us with only one healthy goalie in Jordan Hedley – but of course we need two.
“It’s hard to get a goalie at this time of year but we have managed to bring in ex-Panther Henry Pecl to work alongside Jordan Hedley during Miika’s absence.
“Henry has experience in this league and if the paperwork goes through in time, he will ice with the guys this weekend.”
