Manchester Storm 6 Cardiff Devils 1

Andrew Lord V Storm, British Ice Hockey

The Devils dropped their 2nd game in a row, this time to the Manchester Storm on Sunday Night at Ice Arena Wales.

The Storm opened the scoring on the powerplay when Matt Stanisz finished off a pass from Matt Beca at 6:45 to make it 1-0.  Beca and Stanisz then set up Chris Auger at 13:45 to double their lead, which put the Devils down 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.

Auger scored his 2nd of the game 3:19 into the middle period for the Storm’s third straight powerplay goal to give them a 3-0 lead.   At 26:24, the Storm made it 4-0 when Dallas Ehrhardt blasted a shot from the blueline over the shoulder of Ben Bowns, which effectively ended Bowns’ night with Thomas Murdy replacing him after the 4th goal for the Storm.

Less than 3 minutes into the final period and the Storm made it 5-0 courtesy of Luke Moffat at 42:35. The Devils finally got on the scoreboard at 54:22 when Joey Haddad tipped in a shot from Andrew Hotham to make it 5-1, but the Storm added an empty net goal from Auger who completed his hat-trick at 57:01.

A night to forget for the Devils, who will need to regroup before they travel to Dundee on Wednesday to face the Stars in league action.
