Great Britain’s Matthew Myers is keen to finally get the World Championships underway as the puck drops today on the tournament for Pete Russell’s men.

The Cardiff Devils stalwart is ready for the country’s first top flight experience in 25 years when they go head to head with Germany in their opening game today, face off 3.15pm, at the Steel Arena in Kosice.

And Myers is looking forward to pitting himself against some real high quality players throughout the tournament in the next couple of weeks.

“We can’t wait to get on the ice now,” he said.  “Our preparation has been fantastic but we just want to get started now. We’ve a had a great few weeks together and had five important warm-up games, which has helped us no end.

“We know we are competing with the best in the world here, but we are excited to show what we can do. Everyone is relishing being on the world stage and facing so many top-class players.

“It’s a tough group that’s for sure and will be an intense few weeks so it’s going to be a real test of our abilities.

“We saw with the Slovakia game the standards that we need to set and that will be no different against Germany, who will provide with a tough start to the tournament.”

Catch GB’s game with Germany on FreeSports from 3.10pm, with Aaron Murphy and Paul Adey, and is available free on Sky Channel 422, Virgin Media Channel 553, on Channel 64 on Freeview and BT and on Freesat Channel 252.

  1. The best in the world can be overcome, believe in yourselves, and all we can ever ask of anyone is to do your best. Whatever the results of this excellent standard that the GB team have reached, as hockey fans we all applaud you. Go GB Go…best of luck 🙂
