MK Lightning have confirmed the signing of British defender James Neil.

The 27-year-old has spent the last six and a half seasons in the EPL with Manchester Phoenix, winning two regular season title and one play-off crown.

With Phoenix confirming earlier this week the club was unable to continue due to financial issues, Neil has jumped at the chance to join Lightning’s title challenge.

Neil said: “The past few weeks have been an emotional rollercoaster, as you can imagine. I spent some great years at the Phoenix and loved my time there.

“Obviously after recent events it’s time to move on and I’m grateful to the Milton Keynes organisation and to Pete (Russell), for giving me the opportunity to play for them for the next few months.

“I;m excited about getting started and looking forward to Friday’s game – hopefully I can contribute and help bring success to what’s already a top team.”

Lightning boss Russell added: “James was a massive part of the Phoenix squad over the last six seasons.

“He’s matured into a very solid, dependable player – and that was one of the reasons why I wanted to add him to our group.”
