NIHL North round-up: Kerr fires Sharks a step closer

Solway Sharks need just two more points to be crowned NIHL North Moralee D1 champions after securing two victories from their weekend double-header against Blackburn Hawks.

Kim Miettinen (2) and Daniel Abercrombie (2) topped the scoring in their 8-2 home success, while Stuart Kerr (above) bagged the winner as Sharks won 3-2 on the road.

Billingham Stars are almost certain to finish runners-up after winning 6-5 at home to third-placed Solihull Barons – Chris Sykes (2) and Jack Watkins (2) were amongst their scorers.

Shaun Kippin scored twice for Whitley Warriors in their 4-2 home victory over Telford Tigers NIHL, while Lloyd Gibson weighed in with a couple of goals in Sutton Sting’s 3-1 success at Deeside Dragons.

Blackburn Eagles continued their march to the Laidler D2 title with a 6-3 home win against Sheffield Senators – Steve Hetherington (3) led their scoring.

Widnes Wild strengthened their grip on second place with a four point weekend on the road, winning 8-3 at Bradford Bulldogs and 3-1 at Nottingham Lions.

Hull Jets came from 4-1 down to win 5-4 at Altrincham Aces, while Coventry Blaze NIHL lost 6-1 at home to Nottingham.
