Glasgow’s Braehead Clan picked up their first points of the Elite League regular season with a 5-3 win on the road at Nottingham Panthers.
After two losses last week, the Clan were determined to get something on the board and did so with another hard-working, gritty display.
The Panthers went in front six minutes in as a powerful shot from Evan Mosey flew past Clan goalie Ryan Nie and into the net.
Braehead pulled themselves level within a couple of minutes as Mike Embach reacted quicker to a rebound from Matt Haywood’s shot for a shorthanded goal.
The home side moved in front again before the break as Josh Shalla finished off a rebounded chance after Robert Farmer has brought out a save from Nie.
The visitors restored parity again in the second period as Haywood beat Michael Garnett with a low effort.
Then John Tripp’s side went in front as a shot caused chaos around the crease, finished off by Brendan Brooks to put Braehead 3-2 up.
Adam Brace then opened up a two-goal lead with a close range finish as Garnett failed to deal with the effort from Christoffer Bjorklund.
Panthers hit back early in the third as Ollie Betteridge sent one past Nie to reduce the gap to two and set up a fascinating end.
A fabulous save from the Clan goalie late on kept them in it, with Brooks killed the Continental Cup winners off with a late empty netter.
Clan will get the chance to complete the four point weekend when they head to Edinburgh Capitals at Murrayfield tomorrow.
