Peterborough Phantoms have signed Australian forward Wehebe Darge.

The 24-year-old forward spent last season in Belgium with Chief Leuven, before returning to Australia to play in the AIHL for Adelaide Adrenaline. He ended the campaign with 43 goals in 49 games.

Wehebe also played in the World Championships (Division 2B) in Mexico, where he bagged 11 goals and 13 assists.

Head Coach Slava Koulikov said: “We’re looking forward to Wehebe joining us. In the summer we decided we would run with with four imports, but it was always the plan to evaluate the rest of the league and make additions if required.

“Wehebe contacted us wanting to play in the UK and, after looking at his references and some of the show reels available on him, it looks like he will make a difference to our squad.

“From the short footage I’ve seen Wehebe looks like he has great movement within the scoring areas and has created some great goals.

“Of course he also has the criteria we look for in our players to continue with the team ethos”.

Darge added: “I’m really excited to be playing in the United Kingdom and joining the Phantoms this season.

“I look forward to learning from my team and being challenged in the British league, and hope that that the skills I’ve gained from playing in North America, Belgium and Australia will help the Phantoms succeed this season.”
