Robinson takes on Blaze coaching role

Coventry Blaze boss Danny Stewart has confirmed that forward Brett Robinson will combine his playing duties with the role of assistant coach for the 2017/18 Elite League season.

The 32-year-old graduated from Mercyhurst College of the NCAA before going on to play over 340 games in the ECHL, scoring the Kelly Cup clinching goal with Cincinnati Cyclones in 2010.

Stewart said: “Robbo is the kind of guy that suits a player/coaching role well.

“He’s in control of his emotions, thinks the game well and backs things up in the way he performs. He plays the right way and that makes it realistic for him to give feedback to the players.

“I formed a good relationship with him last season and I truly believe he is a guy that can give me that support day-in and day-out throughout the season.

“Coaching 19-22 professionals on your own is a very difficult task and Robbo’s desire to get into and learn about coaching will drive him to do a job, which will allow myself to be more efficient in mine as well.”
