Sheffield Steelers kept their pursuit of Manchester Storm going at the top of the table as they despatched Cardiff Devils with a 4-0 win.

The home side went ahead 13 minutes into the opening period when Colton Fretter put away the first shorthanded, courtesy of a John Armstrong assist after an error by Devils goalie Ben Bowns.

Then Matt Marquardt added a second shortly after as the Steelers started to impose themselves on the game, leaving Cardiff with work to do.

They increased the lead to three just before the end of the middle session as Andreas Jämtim was set up by Tim Wallace and Devils had something of a hill to climb.

It didn’t get any better for the visitors as Marquardt picked up his second of the night, with a little help from Levi Nelson and Mark Matheson and the victory was secured.
