Belfast Giants are targeting a return to winning ways this weekend following last Sunday’s disappointing 9-5 defeat at Fife Flyers.

The result left the Giants three points behind Cardiff Devils at the top of the Elite League table having played a game more than their title rivals.

The two teams meet in Belfast on Friday and Saturday and Giants’ forward Colin Shields says they are determined to put the Fife performance firmly behind them.

“We got away from what had been making us successful – playing as a team,” said Shields.

“We know we are not going to win every game every season – though the loss hurt a lot of guys. Everyone on the team is upset about Sunday’s performance and we are looking to bounce back hard this weekend.

“Last weekend did not go as planned. We are right back to work this week and focused on the task at hand.

“If we want to win the league then we are going to have to play well against Cardiff and try to take maximum points as many times as we can – starting this week with two big games at home.”
