Sheffield Steeldogs forward Ashley Calvert has agreed a sixth season with the EPL club.

Calvert, who has played over 250 games for the Steeldogs, enjoyed a solid 2015/16 campaign scoring 12 goals with 15 assists in 49 games.

Player/Coach Greg Wood said: “Ash brings an all-round game to the Steeldogs – he’s a big kid and plays with a lot of physicality.

“He’s put up the points year after year – he’s a real strong asset to have. He can play a tough physical game, but he can also contribute offensively.

“In previous years Ash was probably asked to do things he didn’t want to do, but last season his points and penalty minutes showed more of what he’s about.

“He’s not afraid to stand up for the team, but he’s a better player on the ice than he is in the penalty box.

“I used him on the powerplay last season and that’s the first year he’s been used in special teams.

“He picked a few goals up there and I’m looking for him to build on that this year.”

Calvert added: “It’s great to be back yet again with my hometown team – I’m really looking forward to seeing how the team shapes up.

“I’m sure the on-ice product will be one everyone will be looking forward to see.”

“I know Woody’s doing all he can at the minute along with the owners and I have 100 percent confidence in what they have planned.

“I think the club had lost a bit of a buzz, but last season showed we’ve found it again and I’m sure it will show out on the ice this coming season.”
