Sheffield Steelers have confirmed Jerry Andersson is joining the club as Assistant Coach to Paul Thompson.

Andersson, who was Thompson’s boss at IF Troja-Ljungby in Sweden, replaces Darrell Hay.

Thompson said: “I’d like to thank Darrell for his time here. Our decision is not a reflection on his work in any way – we have just decided for a change of direction.

“Darrell more than played his part in the clubs retention of the Elite League title – I enjoyed working with him. He is a very intelligent young man.

“I’ve worked with Jerry and I’m excited to do so again. I know what he can bring to us and help make us better.

“We now have a hockey philosophy here in Sheffield. Our desire to be four lines, our commitment to speed and also the two recent apprentices that we’ve employed and hope to mould into our ways.

“Jerry has decades of experience developing talent like this and that can only help us.

“I’ve seen first hand how he works and I know what we are trying to develop here as a club will suit both parties.

“His experience and knowledge of European and certainly Swedish hockey is without comparison.

“We’ve already started our preparation for not only next year’s team, but also our training camp and the CHL games.”
