Sheffield Steelers have confirmed the signing of Swedish forward Yared Hagos.

The 33-year-old has a wealth of experience in the AHL, Sweden’s SHL and the German DEL where he played last season with Krefeld Pinguine.

Hagos has also represented his country from U16 through to senior level.

Steelers’ Paul Thompson said: “We were very fortunate to pick up such a quality player at short notice.

“We tried to bring Yared to Sheffield in the summer, but he was hoping for a return to Germany. For whatever reason that move didn’t come off and he was happy to accept our advances when we called him last week.

“He has played at an incredibly high level his whole career. I think he might be the first Swede to play for us who has played for his country at all age levels including 20 games for the men’s senior team.

“We are getting a very good all-round player, a competitive centre who I hope will be able to take care of business at both ends of the rink. Yared should be in by the time we go to Scotland next weekend.”

Hagos replaces Tyler Mosienko on the Steelers’ roster following his departure from the club last week.
