Sheffield Steelers have confirmed the signing of Swedish forward Conny Strömberg on an initial one-month trial.

The 40-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the Elite League, having enjoyed a productive career in Scandinavia, Austria, Slovenia and Germany.

Strömberg joins the Steelers from Denmark’s Herlev Eagles, where he has notched five goals and 24 assists in 25 games this season.

Steelers boss’ Paul Thompson says the Swede will add more creativity to his roster.

“We have injuries, we have games coming thick and fast so it’s important we have bodies available,” said Thompson.

“I have been in touch with Conny for a few months now – there has been interest on both sides for a while. Now was the time we were able to get the job done.

“Conny has played at a very high level his whole career, he runs powerplays and is an extremely skilful guy.

“He has been playing very well in Denmark, but he has been excited to come over for a while now. Whilst the initial deal is for a month, he is here fighting for a contract until the end of the year.

“Conny brings a dynamic we need a little more of. We need more creativity. I can’t wait for him to arrive, I think we are all excited to see him.”

Strömberg played 72 games in the Swedish SEL and a further 304 in the Allsveskan, averaging over a point a game.

He will make his Sheffield debut at Belfast Giants this Friday.
