Planet Ice Arena Milton Keynes (known as Planet Ice MK Arena) is an ice hockey stadium/ice rink that is home to Elite Ice Hockey League side, Milton Keynes Lightning. It has been their home since 2002, when the team was founded, and has a capacity of 2,800 -2,200 of which are seated.
The arena was opened in 1990 and has been known as the Bladerunner Arena and Thunderdome in past years. It underwent a refurbishment in 2013/14 and is now a part of a leisure complex which includes a shopping unit and Morrison’s supermarket.
The ice rink itself offers three licensed bars (one overlooking the ice surface, the other a kiosk at ice level), a restaurant, three function rooms (two of which overlooked the ice surface & one having a bar), an ice sports shop, cafeteria, video games area, skate hire, eight team changing rooms (one reserved for the home professional ice hockey team), DJ box, an Olympic-sized ice pad and management offices.

There are several pubs and restaurants within close proximity to the stadium. Sizzling Grillz, Cricketers and The Dome Lounge and Club Milton Keynes are all within walking distance of the venue, with all options serving a range of hot and cold food.
Aside from food, there are plenty of activities for all the family to enjoy. Vertigo VR, Daytona Milton Keynes and Si5 Spy Missions are all less than one-and-a-half-miles from the arena. For those opting to venture further afield, Treetop Extreme and Milton Keynes Museum are all just over two miles away.
Getting there –
By car: Follow the M6 onto the M1 before taking the exit at Junction 14. Follow the A509 before joining the H6 Child’s Way. Continue following the H6 for 4.8 miles, before turning right at the roundabout onto Grafton Street. Take the first exit at the next two roundabouts, take the following right, and the venue will be on your left.
Parking is available at the rink and costs anywhere between £2-20, depending on the length of stay. Parking can either be paid for via the ticket machine or over the phone via Parkonomy, using the location number 8515.
By train/bus: The nearest train station is Milton Keynes Central Station, which is less than a five minute walk from the arena. There are almost 900 parking spaces at the station, but they often get filled quickly, so it is essential to arrive in plenty of time. Several buses also run from Milton Keynes Central Bus Station to the train station, including the number 1, 2, 14 and 300.
The record attendance at the Planet Ice MK arena was on October 18, 2014, when 2,500 fans packed the newly-refurbished rink to see Lightning defeat the Sheffield Steeldogs.
The team had played their home games for the 2013/14 season in Coventry but returned to Milton Keynes one month into the 2014/15 campaign.
