The Planet Ice Silverdome Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Basingstoke, England. It has an Olympic-sized ice rink and has been the home of ice hockey team Basingstoke Bison since the arena was opened in 1988.
Planet Ice Silverdome has an official capacity of 2,000 and is operated by the Planet Ice company, who have a variety of ice-hockey facilities around the country.
Around the ground –
There are several pubs and restaurants within walking distance of the arena, with the Royal Oak and the White Hart Inn providing a range of hot and cold food, drinks and bar snacks.
Aside from food and drink, Hollywood Bowl Basingstoke and Flip Out provide activities for the family, while the cultured Milestones Museum is just a short distance from the arena. Should you be making a day or weekend of your trip, the Anvil Theatre is a good alternative, with a range of shows and productions throughout the week.
Getting there –
By Car: Roads from M3 Junction 6 or 7 will lead onto the Ring road – Exit the ring road from the’Town Centre West Junction’ roundabout, (Morrisons Supermarket adjacent) – following signs for ‘The Leisure Park’/’Whitchurch’ or the ‘B3400’ along Worting Road. Access to the Rink is from the next junction at the ‘West Ham Roundabout’.
From westbound on the M4, exit at Junction 11 (Central Reading) and use the A33. eastbound on the M4, exit at Junction 13 (Newbury) and use the A34 and A339.
There are ample parking spaces at the leisure park, although it can get congested in and around the area at busy times. Parking is free but do allow time to get to the arena early to ensure you get a space.
By train: The closest train station to the arena is Basingstoke Railway Station, which is just under two miles from the arena. A shuttle bus runs from the Rail Station to the Leisure Park, every 8-10 mins before 18:30 and every 15 mins after 18:30.
