Kevin Moore has turned to a former Princeton University alternate captain in his bid to rescue the Coventry Blaze from their injury slump.

With Alessio Luciani and Grayson Constable both sidelined, the Elite League side have signed Adam Robbins to a one-year contract.

The 25-year-old arrives in the West Midlands following a 54-game stint in the ECHL, which saw him score 14 points (nine goals, five assists) for the Tahoe Knight Monsters and Cincinnati Cyclones.

Before entering the professional ranks, Robbins spent five seasons with the Princeton Tigers, recording 58 points (21 goals, 37 assists) in 111 NCAA appearances.

In 2021, the American helped the Chicago Steel win the USHL’s Clark Cup.

“Adam is someone who is a great teammate,” Moore explained.

“He has a high hockey IQ, and he knows how to use his quickness to win body position and protect pucks to make plays.

“Our team is dealing with significant injuries right now, so I’m excited to add Adam to our squad.”

Why have the Coventry Blaze signed Adam Robbins?

Despite advancing to the Challenge Cup semi-finals, the Blaze are 3-6-2  since 22 October and have fallen to eighth in the regular-season standings.

While injuries to Luciani and Constable have been a major part of Coventry’s slide, there is a growing sense of discontent amongst the Skydome Arena faithful.

The Blaze have taken a backwards step since challenging in the top-half last term — and Moore needs Robbins to spark his team back into life.

However, the 5-foot-8 forward isn’t a sure bet.

Robbins has struggled offensively since stepping into the professional ranks, with his lack of physicality holding him back in the ECHL.

He lasted only four games in Cincinnati last term, registering one assist.

With that said, Robbins is only two seasons removed from leading Princeton in goals (11), assists (18), and points (29) — a campaign that saw him nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.

Will it work out for Robbins and the Blaze? Time will tell.
