Belfast Giants have signed defenceman Ryan Lowney to ease their injury worries.

Lowney, 25, arrives from HKM Zvolen of Slovakia and goes straight in to the line-up ahead of the double header against Nottingham Panthers this weekend.

The 5’8″ American played three seasons in the East Coast Hockey League with the Fort Wayne Komets, registering 70 points in 146 games.

Coach Adam Keefe said: “Due to injuries we have been on the lookout for an addition to our team for a few weeks now. Once we knew Ryan was available – we moved quickly to bring him to Belfast.”

“He will be a solid addition to our blueline with the ability to contribute on special teams. I know our fans are going to love watching Ryan in action this season.”
