Basingstoke Bison have moved quickly to secure the services of Jon Baston whilst the extent of Tomas Hiadlovsky’s injury is investigated.

The Finnish-born netminder made a string of impressive performances for Hull Pirates, but was surprisingly released during November as the Humberside outfit shuffled their pack.

The 6’3″ stopper had spent his career previously in Europe and is able to play in the EPL as a result of his British passport, although will fill one of the club’s import roles during the season.

Bison Director of Hockey Doug Sheppard commmented: “With a series of tough challenges awaiting in the coming weeks, bringing Jon into the side was a no-brainer as we aim to maintain our title charge.

“Although results didn’t go his way in Hull, he made a string of impressive performances and we hope he is able to replicate that form as Tomas makes his recovery from injury.”

Hiadlovsky sustained a lower body injury during Basingsoke’s 7-2 victory over Hull on Saturday – the full extent of the injury is yet to be determined.

Baston will make his debut on Saturday at home to Telford Tigers.
