Coventry Blaze have confirmed the signing of Slovakian defenceman Igor Bobcek on a two-week contract.

With injuries to Boris Valabik and Russell Cowley, and Kevin Noble handed an additional four-game ban, Blaze have moved to bring in Bobcek.

The 32-year-old native of Myjava returns to the Elite League having recently been released by Manchester Storm.

Coach Chuck Weber said: “With all our injuries we have been looking at different players to try and help us get through this period.

“Igor’s name popped up and he has flown in today. He will have his physical tomorrow and hopefully be in the line-up this weekend.

“Igor is a big right-handed shot who has a good first pass and controls the net front and the corners. He can be a steady influence for us. He will come in and he has the potential to earn a permanent job.”

Director of Hockey James Pease added: “We’d like to thank the Blaze Booster Club for wanting to support this move by covering Igor’s flight costs.

“They are always looking for ways to support the club and this is another example of them doing just that.

“We needed some cover for the next two weeks to give us the best chance in those games and everyone who is a member of the Booster Club has effectively contributed to making that happen.”
