Blaze trio back on board

Coventry Blaze coach Danny Stewart has urged returning trio David Clements, Luke Ferrara and Ross Venus to push themselves further next year.

All three have committed to another season at the Skydome days after elimination from the play-offs ended their 2018/19 campaigns.

And Stewart spoke of what he’s looking for from all three as he gets his preparation for the new season started already.

“Having these guys back is hugely important on and off the ice. Our Brits are the core of the organisation and every year they play bigger roles on and off the ice,” he said.

“Luke has just come off a fantastic season scoring 18 goals. He continues to progress in all areas and will push for a top six spot next year.

“David had his best season with us to date and is another one who plays a key role on and off the ice. Our hopes are that he progresses even further and goes on to play a bigger role in our special teams next season.

“Ross will be entering his tenth season with the club and his experience will again be looked upon. He had a tough go with injuries and it disrupted his momentum a bit at times, but I felt when he was playing, he gave us a bit more this year.

“We will need that again from him and hopefully for his and our benefit, he’ll be able to stay healthy all season.”

Clements, a right-shot defenceman, began his hockey career in the Coventry youth system before moving to North America before returning in 2015 and has played 252 games.

Venus, a product of the Blaze academy has played 584 times over ten years with the Blaze and has represented the GB National team on eight occasions.

Ferrara is back for a third season and is a two-time league and play-offs winner with Sheffield Steelers and has featured 137 times for Blaze.
