Belfast Giants have announced the signing of forward Brandon Whistle from Sheffield Steelers ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 27-year-old makes the move to Northern Ireland after five seasons with the Steelers, which began in 2018, concluding his tenure in South Yorkshire with 47 goals and 46 assists.

He began his career with AJHL side Bonnyville Pontiacs in 2015, and gained further experience with Vernon Vipers and Salmon Arm Silverbacks in the BCHL, before making the move to Sheffield three years later.

Whistle, who is the son of former Belfast Giants, Cardiff Devils and Sheffield Steelers head coach David Whistle, spent much of his childhood in the UK and opted to represent Team GB during the 2022/23 season. Since then, he has featured eight times on the international stage.

The forward will link up with his brother, netminder Jackson Whistle, who picked up the Giants’ MVP honours at the end of the 2025/26 season, after helping his side to the EIHL Challenge Cup and Elite League title.

Whistle ‘coming in hungry’

On his move to Belfast Giants, Whistle said: “I’m really excited to be heading to Belfast. It’s a team I’ve always respected, and the chance to play alongside my brother makes it even more special.

“I know the kind of passion the Giants fanbase brings, and I can’t wait to be a part of that. I’m coming in hungry to win and ready to do whatever it takes to help the team succeed.”

Head coach Adam Keefe added: “Brandon is a player who plays the game the right way. He’s physical, he’s smart, and he battles hard every shift.

“He’s been developing well over the past few seasons and brings real value at both ends of the ice.

“On top of that, bringing in a guy who already has great character and a connection to our club through his father and brother made this a no-brainer. We’re excited to have him.”
