Great Britain Women have won a bronze medal at the World Championship (Division 2A) in Bled.

GB beat DPR Korea 7-0 in their final game of the tournament to make it four wins from five matches.

But Korea’s victory over hosts Slovenia in the tournament’s final game gave them the silver medal, with Poland winning gold.

Leanne Ganney scored a hat-trick against DPR Korea, while Nicole Jackson secured a 27-shot shut-out.

Head Coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “We are all very proud of the squad this week. They put everything on the line and we could not ask much more of them.

“They are a great group of girls and can be proud of their bronze medals. Of course, we wanted gold and it is crazy how close we came.

“We won four out of five matches and lost the other by only a goal. We scored 34 goals and only conceded three, but sadly it was not to be.

“But we are building something here and the future is very bright.”
