Brendan Brooks has set his sights on winning gold as Great Britain bid to secure promotion from World Championship Division 1B next week.

GB kick-off their tournament in Belfast against Croatia on Sunday, before facing Estonia, Lithuania and Netherlands during the week. Their final game is on Saturday, 29th April, against Japan.

Brooks starred in GB’s warm-up games against Poland last weekend at Nottingham and Coventry, with each team registering a win.

“It was a great experience to put on the Great Britain jersey for the first time,” said Brooks.

“It has been a while since I was in a game, so I feel it was very important to have those games in order to prepare for the upcoming championship games.

“In international hockey the level of play is a lot faster. You have some of the best players from the country on the same ice.

“We have a hard week of preparation ahead of us for these championships. Working on team systems and making sure, as individuals, we are ready and in top form for the upcoming games.

“The team expectations, with the talent and personnel we have, is to win the gold.

“We’re all working towards the same goal. Whatever it takes for the country to make sure we play our best and give ourselves the opportunity to win.”
