Coventry Blaze have released Slovakian defenceman Igor Bobcek.

The 32-year-old native of Myjava was handed a two-week contract after injuries and a suspension left Blaze depleted in defence.

Bobcek played four times for Blaze, with his final appearance seeing him ejected in the first period of the 6-3 home victory over Braehead Clan on Sunday night.

Coach Chuck Weber said: “We have released Igor and he will be flying home today.

“We appreciate the effort and the minutes he gave us. He was here to see if he could try and take someone else’s job but we felt he did not do enough.”

Bobcek, who played four times for the Blaze, started the season with Manchester Storm, scoring six points in 15 appearances.
