Destination Lausanne for GB

Great Britain’s men’s team will head to Lausanne in Switzerland for next year’s World Championships after the draw for the 2020 competition was made.

Their reward for staying in the top pool will provide matches against this year’s silver medallists, Canada, deposed champions Sweden, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Denmark and newly promoted Belarus in the new 9,500-seater rink which is being rebuilt in the Swiss city.

Once again, GB will be the lowest ranked team in the competition, despite climbing to 20th in the aftermath of their heroics in Kosice and will look forward to renewing acquaintances with the Germans, Slovakians, the Canadians and the Danes after playing them recently.

GB secured their place after a dramatic 4-3 overtime win against France last week after going down 3-0 in their final game and was the victory they needed after suffering losses in their previous contests.

As yet, the fixtures themselves have yet to be announced, but more information on tickets can be found on the IIHF website.
