Dundee Stars retain Shawn Boutin for second season

Boutin Stockton, British Ice Hockey

Canadian defender Shawn Boutin has re-signed for Dundee Stars ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Boutin, 29, joined the Stars in 2018 from German side Dresdner Eislowen, and enjoyed a good first year with the club, scoring 27 points in 66 games.

He previously played for the Coventry Blaze in the Elite League after spending 12 years in Canada and the United States.

Stars head coach Omar Pacha said: “Shawn has been a guy I was considering heavily at the end of the season.

“He plays well defensively, he’s steady and similar to Mags (Matt Marquardt) he has very good leadership skills.

“Getting a right-shot defenceman is always tough and he fits that role. I think he is one of those guys that understands what he is good at and he does things well.

“I expect him to be better, just like everybody and I expect him to keep improving and I want him to be a solid guy defensively.”

After signing on for 2019/20, Boutin added: “I am really excited to be back in Dundee for the upcoming season.

“Omar and our owners are building a good hockey culture and I want to be part of it. We have a great fan base and I love the city and Scotland, so it was an easy decision to come back.”
