Elite League round-up: Clan and Panthers all square

A late equaliser put Braehead Clan’s Elite Challenge Cup quarter-final tie on a knife edge after a 3-3 draw with Nottingham Panthers.

Panthers took the lead in the first period when Matt Carter jammed the puck in at the far post to beat Michal Zajkowski, before doubling their lead 39 seconds into the middle session when Alex Nikiforuk scrambled the puck home.

Matt Beca halved the deficit before the second break, and Clan looked set for victory when goals by Matt Keith and Lee Baldwin edged them ahead in the final period.

However, the Panthers refused to lie down and Carter tied things up with two minutes to go to set up an intriguing second leg at Nottingham next Wednesday.
