MK Lightning ended their time in the EPL with a bang, after demolishing Telford Tigers 7-2 to secure the play-off title at Coventry.

Lightning reached the final courtesy of an emphatic 8-3 victory over Guildford Flames, while the Tigers progressed after a 3-2 success against Basingstoke Bison.

Goals by Blaz Emersic and Craig Scott put Lightning in control of the final in the first period, and Leigh Jamieson’s rocket early in the second session extended their lead to three.

Lewis Hook and Frantisek Bakrlik made it 5-0 before the second break and although Doug Clarkson pulled one back for the Tigers in the 41st minute a comeback never looked likely.

Bakrlik soon restored the five-goal lead, before Sam Zajac fired home to make it 6-2.

Scott bagged his second of the game after 55 minutes to give Lightning the perfect send off ahead of joining the Elite League in 2017/18.
