Evan Bloodoff’s overtime goal nine seconds into the extra period clinched victory for Fife Flyers over Sheffield Steelers in a closely fought contest in Kirkcaldy.

There wasn’t much to separate the teams in the first period, although Fife goalie Andy Iles made two big saves towards the end of the first with an amazing double save.

Fife had some good chances in the second period, but couldn’t make them count, to the frustration of the home fans, hopeful of seeing their team take victory.

But the visitors took their chance in the early stages of the third period when Andreas Valdix flung the puck into the crease causing chaos.

Levi Neilson was credited with the final touch as a tight third period began to play out, with Sheffield hanging on to a slender lead.

With a minute and 23 seconds to play, the ‘auld barn’ erupted as Shayne Stockton finished from Russ Moyer’s assist to tie the game.

Then Bloodoff came through at the crucial time to leave Steelers beaten and claim a big home win for Todd Dutiiaume’s men.
