GB defender agrees new Steelers deal

Sheffield Steelers have re-signed Great Britain defender David Phillips for the 2017/18 season.

The 29-year-old joined the Steelers from Manchester Storm last summer and helped the team win the Elite League play-off title.

Steelers’ boss Paul Thompson said: “I was delighted with Davey’s contribution all year. It was no risk signing him last summer, he is a quality player – solid and reliable.

“He soon bought into our ways here in Sheffield and was an ever-present in the team. On and off the ice he has become an important member of the club.

“I don’t think there was ever a chance we wouldn’t ask Davey to remain with us and we are delighted he has accepted – I like the core group of the club and it’s only going to get better.”
